Running a company can be a lonely business. Our clients often tell us how they feel isolated.

Recent statistics have actually revealed that a large proportion of business owners share a common concern that business decisions, which can have an impact on their company, have to be made independently.

Thirty seven per cent of SME owners who took part in the poll confessed to this assumption, 43 per cent expressed loneliness in matters involving changes in strategy or direction, and with regards to business planning two fifths admitted to feeling detached.

This is due to the fact that we are all social beings. Even business owners, managers and directors think more clearly when they can talk to someone about a problem or concern they may have. If you’re a sole trader, it can be particularly difficult to find someone to confide in.

And this is where we come in. The services an accountant provides have of course diversified massively over the past few years. We now provide a full business advisory service and a one stop shop. However one valuable service which we should never forget, is simply to listen.

Clients may need a confidential ear they know they can trust. They may like to talk to someone who might have seen the problem before, or who has at least some understanding of the sheer difficulty of making decisions. Few small businesses have a relationship with a solicitor, management consultant or other adviser, so an accountant is the ideal solution.
